BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Minutes
August 7, 1996

Board met in Regular Session 7.30 p.m. in their Meeting Room in Abbot Hall

Present (constituting a quorum):

William E. Conly
Diane E. St. Laurent
William M. Purdin
F. Reed Cutting, Jr.
Anthony M. Sasso, Town Administrator


After a brief discussion. it was the consensus of the Board members to table a Police Report as it relates to an intoxicated person being placed in protective custody until Town Administrator Sasso returns from vacation. At that time, the Board would like him to go over this report with the officers involved.

RETIREMENT BOARD. Letter read from Patricia Kelly Murray, Executive Secretary of the Town of Marblehead Retirement Board, stating that Jeanne C. Ross was elected to the Marblehead Retirement Board for a three-year term commencing July 1, 1996. Nils P. Peterson was appointed Chairman.

Chairman McNulty extended sincerest sympathy to Jeanne Ross and her family on the recent passing of her mother. Dorothy Gage.

COUNCIL ON AGING. Council on Aging will hold their annual Seniors' Picnic at the Middle School Auditorium on Thursday, August 29th at 12 noon.

SCHOOL DEPARTMENT. Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Gearhart appeared before the board with information on a contract the School Department will soon be signing. It is a ten-year contract for energy improvements with Johnson Controls. The Board of Selectmen is supportive of this contract which will be paid for from the resulting savings of the energy improvements..

Motion made and seconded that the Board go into Executive Session to discuss strategy with respect to potential litigation. On a polled vote, the Board voted as follows: Mr. Cutting, in favor; Mr Purdin, in favor; Mrs. St. Laurent, in favor; Mr. Conly, in favor; and Mr. McNulty, in favor. 7:50 p.m.

Motion made and seconded to resume in open session. All in favor.

Motion made and seconded to authorize Chairman McNulty to sign the Executive Administrative Order of Consent with the EPA. All in favor.

Motion made and seconded to adjourn. All in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
