BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Minutes
October 16, 1996
Board met in Regular Session 7.30 p.m. in their Meeting Room in Abbot Hall
Present (constituting a quorum):
Diane E. St. Laurent, Chairman
William M. Purdin
F. Reed Cutting, Jr.
Anthony M. Sasso, Town Administrator
Motion made and seconded to appoint Diane E. St. Laurent, Chairman pro tem.
All in
MINUTES. Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes ofthe meetin=,
of October 9, 1996 All in favor.
FIRE DEPARTMENT. A letter was read from Fire Chief Charles Maurais requesting,
that a member of the Board be present at the bid opening for the fire apparatus
on Friday, October 18, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at Fire Headquarters. It was the
consensus of the Board that Selectmen Cutting, Jr. will attend.
MARBLEHEAD HOUSING AUTHORITY. A letter was read trom Joyce Elliott indicating
her resignation trom the Marblehead Housing Authority. The Board accepted
her resignation. A Ietter of appreciation will be sent for all she has done.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT. Motion made and seconded to approve the request
of Town Engineer, Doug Saal to appear betore the Finance Committee to request
a transfer of $3,202 from the reserve fund to close out the Disaster #0920
account and turn the balance over to the Town's general fund. All in favor.
TRAFFIC & SAFETY. A letter received from Aileen Dodge requesting
two signs on Prince Street: one stating 15-mile per hour speed limit and
the other "SLOW, PLEASE WATCH FOR CHILDREN." Motion made and seconded
to refer the letter to the Traffic and Satety Advisory Committee. All in
favor.
PERMISSION. Sign. Engle Saez and Doug Reading appeared before the Board
to request a sign for their store, Atlantic Rancher, at 9 Pleasant Street.
Motion made and seconded to approve the request subject to the approval
of the Old and Historic Districts Commission and a Certiticate of Insurance.
All in favor
WARRANT. Special Town Meeting. Motion made and seconded to close the
Warrant at 8:00 p m. for the Special Town Meeting of November 18, 1996.
All in favor.
Motion made and seconded that the Board go into Executive Session to
discuss collective bargaining and a disciplinary issue, votes may be taken,
and if they are, votes to be released at a time deemed appropriate by Counsel,
not to resume in open session. On a polled vote, the Board voted as follows:
Mr. Purdin, in favor; Mr. Cutting, in favor; Mrs. St. Laurent in favor.
Motion made and seconded to adjourn at 8:05 p.m.
